Namsan Tower In Seoul

Namsan Tower in Seoul

The symbol of Seoul, Namsan Seoul Tower

Namsan Seoul Tower and the mountain itself (Namsan), is one of my favourite places since I first set foot in South Korea. One striking feeling I got was its location which provides me with a fantastic view of the city of Seoul in various angles.

Namsan Seoul Tower is the first inclusive radio tower in Korea that combines the functions of efficient transmission and reception of radio waves and the sightseeing facilities that utilize the traditional beauty of Korea. The transmission tower was built and meant for the future of broadcasting culture and tourism industry.

Namsan Seoul Tower has not only been serving as a consolidated transmission structure; it has become a symbol of the nation and a significant landmark of Seoul. It has been a representative sightseeing point of South Korea for the past 40 years and a symbol of the capital city – Seoul.

The 'Namsan Seoul Tower' has become a target of citizens' interest and attraction owing to its majestic height, its distinctive structure and shape. Both locals and foreign visitors love the place. Recently, the Korean Wave of soap opera is gaining much popularity around the world, many of its scenes are being shot at Namsan Tower’s vicinity thus promoting the symbol all the more.

The center of the analog broadcasting era, Namsan Seoul Tower

Korean analog TV broadcasting started in 1961 when KBS-TV first launched its radio waves. Early television radio waves had problems such as lower reception and complex interference needing higher radio tower.

In the meantime, 'Namsan Seoul Tower' was built in 1971 to transmit waves for TV and radio broadcasting.

When Namsan Seoul Tower was built in 1971, all TV and radio broadcasting were aired through analog waves of this tower, which actually served around forty percent of Seoul’s total population.
Despite the fact that analogue broadcasting was stopped, the tower still serves as a broadcasting station for some big companies including KBS, MBC, SBS and DMB.

Namsan Tower’s Elegant Beauty and Advanced Technology

The tower, which is intended for transmission of broadcast radio and sightseeing, is in the center of the metropolis by its nature. However, the Empire State Building in New York and the Calgary Tower in Canada are sometimes overlooked because of the surrounding high-rise buildings.

However, the 'Namsan Seoul Tower' is located at the top of Namsan (mountain), which is a high and spacious park with an elevation of about 240 meters and an area of 2.9 million square meters in total. The tower is strategically and finely built in the heart of Seoul with a 365 view of the whole city. You will have an amazing experience when you visit it during evening time when all city lights are on.

The Namsan Seoul Tower has been selected as one of the world's 500 top tourist destinations by Lonely Planet, the world's largest travel publisher. The fact that you can enjoy the diverse scenery of Namsan which shows the changes of the four seasons clearly is one of the best attraction points of Namsan Seoul Tower.

Due to its unique location and all other advantages, Namsan Seoul Tower has been named by many tourism publishers as one of the top tourist attractions. In particular, Lonely Planet selected it as one of the world’s 500 top destinations. In addition, to its superb location, the four seasons of Korea do not bore any visitor who will come many times in a year as the colours of the trees and various flowers change the mountain’s environment entirely.
